A theory that the Port Arthur massacre may have begun at the guesthouse where the killer later held hostages is being investigated by police.
A police spokesman said last night the possibility existed that the proprietors of the Seascape Guesthouse may have been the first victims rather than having been among the last as initially thought.
"We are keeping an open mind on that and other aspects," the spokesman said.
The guesthouse proprietors's bodies have yet to be identified, but are believed to have been among the three found in the burnt-out ruins of their property over the past two days.
